Hiya Reader, *Technicial difficulties beyond my control delayed the delivery of this edition by a few hours. Apologies.* I'll be honest: I'm existentially exhausted by life right now. Can you relate? My creative writing, always a process as slow as molasses down an iceberg, has reached a slowness of comic proportions. Thankfully, I have my wonderful clients and lots of editing! When everything else in my world feels like chaos, I can always tinker like a tinkering thing. Maybe that's why I like rules so much? 🤔 Think a friend would appreciate Editorial Notes?Send them this link to sign up:

Sometimes this is a bad example—or just a funny blooper. Sometimes a combination. You never know. From a news item: "Portions of the Aquatics Center are essentially complete." Translation: nothing is finished. Actionable Tip of the WeekA trick to add to your self-editing toolbox right now! Once or twice a month, a prospective client will reach out to commission editing services, stating some version of "all I really need is a quick proofread." 🤯 There's a couple of problems here (and one is NOT that a quality proofread is the opposite of quick). Read the rest of the article here. Reader Question of the WeekNat wrote: In your description of your writing residency (sounds heavenly!) you mentioned that you used Scrivener. I've been considering this program, and I wondered what you find useful about it that I couldn't just do in Word. Nat! I looked at Scrivener for quite a long time before deciding to bite the bullet, and while the software does have some wonky annoyances, the pluses far outweigh the minuses for me. You'll find lots of information online about the program with a quick Google search, so I recommend that you do your research and decide for yourself if the ~$60 usd is worth your investment. I'm not an affiliate, but even if I were, I wouldn't recommend Scrivener for every writer. Want to Submit a Reader Question to Helene?Give in to the urge.

Editorial Notes = clarifying information, additional insight, annotations Hiya Reader, It's a pretty divisive topic in my family, but I absolutely love Good & Plenty. I like black licorice of all kinds, but the chummy pink and white ovals of yumminess are my favorites. I like them when they are hard to chew. I like them when they are super soft. I really like them, Sam I Am! Recently, I saw the movie theater boxes on the store shelf and wondered, why do I never buy these any more? So I bought...
Editorial Notes = clarifying information, additional insight, annotations Hiya Reader, A question for you. What do you make of a school teaching students that it's okay to use AI if they #1 disclose that they've done so, and #2 cite it as a source with both in-text citations and an entry on the reference list? Hit reply to give your opinion on this! Extra credit for explaining why you hold the opinion you do. Think a friend would appreciate Editorial Notes? Send them this link to sign up:...
Editorial Notes = clarifying information, additional insight, annotations Hiya Reader, After much paperwork and many months of waiting, my proprietary Butterfly Blueprint® framework now officially carries the federally-registered trademark symbol! Clients who choose to work with me already choose me for a number of important reasons including the trust such a mark conveys, so in that sense, nothing has changed. But crossing this hurdle is nevertheless a big milestone for me and I'm excited,...
